Twilight Weekday series, (Tuesday evenings), which allows for ‘after work’ sailing, racing in Queen Charlotte Sounds. Races utilise both traditional spinnaker “round the cans” races and the more gentle Mark Foy handicap races, which do not fly spinnakers. Races are run in three Divisions and consist of a Spring and Summer Series, in addition our four week Mini Series over late December early January. This year the Spring Twilight Series is sponsored by Marlborough Sounds Marinas. Our Mini Series this season is jointly sponsored by Vining Marine / WK providing exceptional prizes.
ISLAND HOPPER RACING: This series of races is held on Sundays, which is open to all boats and held over 3 races on courses to various locations around Queen Charlotte Sound.
SHORT-HANDED RACES: These challenging races are usually between 4 and 20 nautical miles long. They are raced on Sundays and the keelers and trailer yachts race with either a one or two people as crew.
COASTAL SERIES: Our offshore series this season is sponsored by Mt Gay Rum. These races are open to keelers only and are planned as a one day race for Saturday, usually with a Start and/or Finish line at Motuara Island, except for the Cook Strait Race, which is from Wellington to Tory Channel. The Cook Strait Race is run by RPNYC (Handicaps are allocated by that club). Within this series the WBC run the WineWorks Wine Race. Yachts entering all Offshore races must have at least Category 3 Safety Certificates.
LAWSON’S DRY HILLS NEW YEAR REGATTA: The highlight of the racing calendar, 2 full days of racing, with a mixture of short and medium length courses. There is usually excellent support with yachts from Christchurch, Nelson and Wellington boats attending. Sponsored by Lawson’s Dry Hills Wines. The Friday night is the Invitation Race for yachts entered in the regatta.
WINTER SERIES: These are the only races throughout the winter. They are held on Sundays, planned to last approximately 1.5 to 2.5 hours and are very well supported in two divisions. There are 9 races scheduled for this series. The series is kindly sponsored for the third year by New Zealand King Salmon.
