We are delighted to have Versatile as the major partner for the Waikawa Boating Club’s Offshore Series. When you’re in need of a garage, studio, sleepout, farm building or a carport; talk to the people at Versatile.
The bay was sighted by Captain James Cook in 1770 and Captain Jules Sébastien César Dumont d’Urville in 1827 but neither gave it a name. Cook climbed the nearby peak, now known as Remarkable Cone and looking down on the cove noted evidence of an abandoned māori settlement.
Perhaps Cook’s observations are a reflection of the harsh conditions that can confront crews in this race. On paper this is a straight run to Catherine Cove but the weather will most certainly have a say in it.
