In 2017 yachting journalist Rebecca Hayter sailed from the UK with veteran ocean racer Ross Field on a quest to sail the Northwest Passage. For Rebecca, it was a personal journey as a sailor and a voyage of research as a journalist. She knew many sailors would love to share this rare opportunity – to learn from Ross Field’s 35 years of ocean racing as he refitted a tired, 20-year-old aluminium yacht and skippered his boat across the North Atlantic.
- gun-toting customs officers
- candid observations of life onboard
- Ross Field’s hilarious Facebook posts and memories from Whitbread races
- waves so big that Ross said, “Don’t look out the back.”
Rebecca’s book, Wild Seas to Greenland was described by book reviewer Jenny Nicholls as: “superbly funny, detailed though crisply written”.
Rebecca has written about yachting in New Zealand for nearly 30 years. She was editor of Boating New Zealand for 12.5 years, and her 15 journalism and writing awards include 2020 Columnist/Blogger of the Year. Her most recent assignment was writing daily updates for Northsails.com over the America’s Cup.
Rebecca will also present on her father, Adrian Hayter, and his sailing classic, Sheila in the Wind, first published in 1959 and republished in 2020.
Wild Seas to Greenland and Sheila in the Wind will be available for sale.
