We are delighted to have Versatile as the major partner for the Waikawa Boating Club’s Offshore Series. When you’re in need of a garage, studio, sleepout, farm building or a carport; talk to the people at Versatile.

Off the east coast of Arapawa Island, in Cook Strait, The Brothers form two small island groups, each containing one main island and a number of tiny islets. The main islands are simply called North Brother and South Brother. North Brother is slightly more elevated, rising to 66 metres and is topped by the Brothers Islands Lighthouse, built in 1877.

The Maori name for the group, Ngāwhatu-kai-ponu, literally means “the eyes that witnessed”, and the islands are considered tapu.

North Brother Island is a sanctuary for a rare reptile subspecies, the Brothers Island tuatara.

Racing

All boats entering in the Versatile Offshore Series must have a minimum of a current Category 3 Safety Certificate.

The Course is weather dependent, and you will be advised at briefing, but is likely to be starting at Motuara Island, round Cape Jackson light house, Walker Rock and Brothers Island all to starboard, finishing at Ruakawa Rock – Tory Channel. Or Starting at Ruakawa Rock – Tory Channel, rounding Brothers Island, Walker Rock and Cape Jackson Light House all to port, finishing at Motuara Island.

Cruising

We had an excellent turnout at Punga Cove Resort with 12 boats mooring up and staying the night.
